Cascata delle Marmore

If you are looking for a hotel near the Marmore Falls, you’re in the right place!

If you visit Umbria, this is a must-see destination. The poet Alinda Bonacci Brunamonti once said that “no poet or painter ever saw anything more beautiful,” and indeed, the breathtaking views from the various viewpoints surrounding the falls offer a truly unique spectacle. The Marmore Falls are formed by two rivers: the Velino, which plunges into the underlying Nera River.

This artificial waterfall was created by the Roman consul Curio Dentato, who diverted the course of the Velino to reclaim the Sabina region and channel the waters of the two rivers together. Describing such a spectacle is difficult—we highly recommend planning a visit to see it with your own eyes… 165 meters in total, divided into three dramatic drops!

The waterfall can be admired from two different viewpoints: the Lower Belvedere and the Upper Belvedere. The Lower Belvedere offers a view from below, allowing you to see all three drops as the Velino River plunges into the Nera. The Upper Belvedere, on the other hand, provides a panoramic view from above, especially of the first drop.

The waters of the Velino are used to power hydroelectric plants, meaning water flow is regulated by strict schedules. We recommend checking the official Marmore Falls website to ensure you visit at the best time and avoid any disappointment.

A truly enchanting experience is hiking the trails around the falls. There are six different routes, ranging from easy walks to more challenging treks, all equally stunning. In particular, we suggest following Trail No. 1, which leads to the “Lovers’ Balcony.” Bring a raincoat—you’ll be so close to the waterfall that you’ll feel its powerful spray!

You can spend an entire day inside the park, enjoying food and drinks at the kiosks, restaurants, and bars, or relaxing in the picnic areas. Children will have a fantastic time, and your four-legged friend will be welcome too!

Our recommendation

Once in Norcia, we recommend continuing to the Castelluccio Plain, the rooftop of the Apennines in the heart of the Sibillini National Park. Famous worldwide for its lentil cultivation, this area in June offers an unforgettable display of colors known as “La Fiorita,” where countless wildflowers bloom simultaneously, creating a breathtaking natural spectacle.

The Marmore Falls, the starting point of our Valnerina itinerary, are about 10 kilometers from our hotel and can be reached by car or bus. For any advice or information, our staff will be happy to assist you!
