Nera River Park

 

This scenic trail follows the ancient dirt road of transhumance, crossing the Nera Waters Park and the Marmore Falls before continuing towards the high villages of the Valnerina. Various itineraries are available, depending on the difficulty level you wish to tackle, from more demanding hikes to family-friendly walks. Here are three recommended routes:

 

Ferentillo – Abbey of San Pietro in Valle

Difficulty: Hiking

Elevation gain: 552 m
Recommended for: Well-trained hikers looking for a blend of art, history, and nature

Colleponte – Umbriano

Difficulty: Tourist-friendly
Duration: 45 minutes
Length: 1.4 km
Elevation gain: 162 m
Recommended for: Families exploring an ancient abandoned village

Prato Manente – Colle della Pelosa

Difficulty: Hiking
Duration: About 3 hours
Length: 5.5 km
Elevation gain: 390 m

Trekking on the Martani Mountains

The Martani Mountains trekking route stretches along the Martani ridge between Cesi and Giano dell’Umbria, passing through villages, legendary castles, churches, abbeys, and breathtaking landscapes.

In total, the trail spans about 120 km and does not present significant technical difficulties.

Here are two suggested routes:

Cesi – Sant’Erasmo Route

The trail starts in the village of Cesi, with a moderate climb leading to the Sant’Erasmo summit in just over an hour, where you’ll find the Astronomical Observatory.

“Itinerary of Silence”

For those who love long-distance hiking, this 14 km route starts in Massa Martana, passing through some of the most picturesque spots along the Martani trek, including the Convent of San Pietro sopra le Acque, Viepri, the Abbey of Saints Fidenzio and Terenzio, and Castel Rinaldi.
